New Cool Collective Big Band maakt indruk in de grote zaal van de Oosterpoort tijdens Noorderslag. Enkele dagen later wordt bekend dat bandleider Benjamin Herman de VPRO/Boy Edgar Prijs krijgt. De jury vindt Herman een 'voorbeeldig jazzmuzikant: open, nieuwsgierig, energiek en geëngageerd. Typerend voor hem is zijn nimmer aflatende drive, een zeer goede techniek en een prachtige toon'.'' De saxofonist krijgt de prijs op 26 april overhandigd in het Bimhuis te Amsterdam. Van New Cool Collective verschijnt de 12' The Trip op het label Freestyle. Benjamin Herman speelt mee in twee tracks op het debuutalbum Mesmerize van DJ Maestro. Hij is ook te horen op de cd Cashmere Cat van de Easy Aloha's en begeleidt samen met onder anderen trombonist Louk Boudesteijn (Tasha's World) en trompettist Jan van Duikeren Paul Weller tijdens diens optreden op North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam.

Biography Tineke Postma started playing saxophone, piano and flute at a young age. After finishing her Bachelor's Degree in jazz music, she graduated cum laude in June 2003 from the masters program at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. During her masters study Tineke received two scholarships for studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York where she lived on First Avenue. She studied with Chris Potter, Dick Oats, David Liebman and Garry Dial. In 2002 Tineke was nominated for the Anderson Jazz Award, Pim Jacobs Prize and she was selected for the Young Talent Competition. As the first Dutch female musician she won the prestigious Sisters in Jazz Competition (IAJE, USA) and toured, together with the SIJ band, throughout the USA and several European festivals (North Sea Jazz, Umbria Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne). The Tineke Postma Quartet played the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2002 and several jazz clubs throughout Europe. This debut album mainly contains Tineke's original compositions. Track Listing 1.
